Evidence-Based, Audio-Visually Streamed, 1-hour Dental CE, $10 each course

What We’re All About

The Online Institute for Continuing Dental Education (OICDE) was founded to provide dentists and dental team members with practical, evidence-based continuing education that strengthens clinical skills and enhances patient care. Unlike programs that attempt to cover every aspect of dentistry, OICDE focuses exclusively on four essential domains that impact daily practice: Anesthesia-Emergencies, Nutrition-Prevention, Occlusion-TMD, and Esthetics-Anatomy. Our mission is to offer clear, relevant, and research-backed courses that clinicians can immediately integrate into practice to improve patient outcomes. We deliberately avoid high-end restorative, implant, surgical, and pediatric procedures, concentrating instead on core areas where continuing education makes the greatest impact across general practice.

Learn Something Every Day

“The essence of the principled dental practitioner is to be constantly striving to learn and apply that knowledge to their dental clinical and academic endeavors.”

Module 1:

Anesthesia-Emergencies

“Mastery of anesthesia and emergency protocols ensures patient safety, clinical confidence, and compliance with the highest academic standards of dental practice.”

This module provides critical training in safe anesthetic delivery and effective emergency management. Courses emphasize patient assessment, safe dosing, monitoring, and recognition of complications before they escalate into crises. Practical instruction covers common office-based emergencies such as syncope, allergic reactions, airway compromise, and cardiovascular incidents. The emphasis is on prevention through preparation, but equal importance is given to rapid recognition and action when emergencies occur. Dentists who complete this module gain confidence in their ability to safeguard patients during routine care and manage unexpected situations with calm precision. By mastering these skills, clinicians not only meet professional CE requirements but also elevate the safety culture of their practices.

Module 2:

Nutrition-Prevention

“Integrating evidence-based nutrition and preventive strategies empowers clinicians to reduce disease burden while advancing patient-centered oral health care.”

The Nutrition-Prevention module explores the critical role diet and lifestyle play in oral and systemic health. With a special emphasis on vegan and plant-based approaches, courses examine the links between nutrition, the oral microbiome, periodontal disease, and systemic illnesses such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Practical strategies for patient education on diet, hygiene, and disease prevention are also provided. Topics include fluoride use, caries prevention strategies, risk assessment, and behavior modification for long-term oral health. By focusing on prevention, clinicians can reduce reliance on restorative interventions and instead guide patients toward maintaining lifelong oral wellness. This module equips practitioners to have meaningful, science-based conversations with patients about the importance of diet and hygiene in achieving optimal health outcomes.

Module 3:

Occlusion-TMD

“A deep understanding of occlusion and TMD bridges science and practice, preventing restorative failures and improving long-term patient quality of life.”

The Occlusion-TMD module addresses one of the most challenging yet essential aspects of general practice—diagnosis and management of occlusal and temporomandibular disorders. These courses emphasize functional occlusion, biomechanics, and patient assessment tools that identify parafunctional habits, malocclusion, and TMD risk factors. Evidence-based approaches to treatment include appliance therapy, patient education, and conservative interventions that improve function and reduce pain. By strengthening knowledge in this area, dentists are better equipped to prevent complex restorative failures and improve patient quality of life. The module also highlights the intersection of occlusion with airway health, posture, and overall systemic well-being, providing a holistic view of patient care.

Module 4:

Esthetics-Anatomy

“Esthetics grounded in anatomical precision elevates both functional outcomes and academic excellence, uniting artistry with the science of dentistry.”

The Esthetics-Anatomy module bridges the art and science of dentistry by combining detailed anatomical knowledge with principles of smile design and restorative harmony. Courses explore facial and dental esthetics, tooth morphology, shade selection, and conservative approaches to enhancing patient appearance. Emphasis is placed on minimally invasive techniques, prevention of iatrogenic damage, and creating outcomes that balance function with beauty. Understanding anatomy at a detailed level empowers clinicians to execute esthetic procedures with precision while maintaining biological respect for natural structures. This module gives general practitioners the tools to meet growing patient demand for esthetics while keeping care practical, ethical, and grounded in sound science.
